My Fave Thrifty YouTubers!

In which I share some of my favorite YouTubers who love to thrift as much as I do.

Hello everyone!

I don’t know about you, but I love YouTube. I mean LOVE. I think I may watch YouTube more than actual television, and that includes streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, all those good things (which I still love!). I watch YouTube videos to learn things like new recipes, to work out, and I often watch daily vlogs and have them on in the background as I work. But for the purposes of this post, I thought I would share some of my favorite thrifty YouTubers! Whether they focus mainly on thrifting content, or sometimes feature it in their vlogs, anything like that.

Kristin Johns

I’ve been a longtime follower and subscriber of Kristin’s. Let me tell you, she has the cutest style and lifestyle videos! Her vlogs are the type that I stop what I’m doing and focus on watching the video, that’s how much I love them. Kristin doesn’t focus solely on thrifting content, but she often features her thrifting adventures in her vlogs, and she always picks up the cutest things. She especially has an eye for thrifted home decor and cooking supplies, so if that sounds like something you’d be interested in, I would definitely check her out! Click HERE to access her YouTube channel, and HERE for her Instagram!

TheNotoriousKIA

Kia is the absolute coolest! She is a content creator based out of New York City, and if you love vlogs focused in NYC, she’s an awesome vlogger to watch. She has lookbooks, tutorials, “thrift with me” videos, and closet videos galore! And her content is all so high quality and truly a delight to watch. I discovered her channel recently and I’ve been obsessed ever since. I’ve also learned a lot from some of her tutorials, her “How To: Clean & Disinfect Your Thrift Store Clothing” video I found particularly helpful! Click HERE to access her YouTube channel, and HERE for her Instagram!

Taylor Made Style

Taylor is one of those influencers whose closet I wish I could raid. She often posts “Thrift with me” videos, which you can probably already tell are some of my favorite kinds of videos to watch. She’s done a lot of traveling recently too, and I’ve really enjoyed watching her Cincinnati, Boston, and Cleveland vlogs. She has an eye for trendier pieces especially, and I always find her outfits really inspiring. Click HERE to access her YouTube, and HERE for her Instagram!

by Chloe Wen

I recently discovered Chloe’s channel, bevause she did a really fun collab with Taylor from Taylor Made Style! I love her style, but what I love about her channel is she doesn’t solely focus on thrifting videos. She also makes videos about beauty, lifestyle, food, and other fun things. So, if you like a little variety in your content, she would be a fun creator to follow! Click HERE to access her YouTube, and HERE for her Instagram!

Wear I Live

Jenny, the gal behind Wear I Live, is a super chill and laid back YouTuber who posts mostly about thrifted and sustainable fashion, but also lifestyle as well! She makes thrift haul and flip videos, lifestyle vlogs, and other cool videos like her most recent “8 Small Routines to Stay Grounded & Present.” She is also based in NYC, but is a Colorado native and filmed quite a few of her recent vlogs there during quarantine, which I thought was so fun and different since I’ve never visited Colorado before (tho I really want to!). Click HERE to access her YouTube, and HERE for her Instagram!

That Curly Top

Jazmine, or “thatcurlytop,” is the absolute sweetest! Her content focuses mainly on sustainability and lifestyle, but I find the clothing she wears to be really inspiring and mostly thrifted! I discovered her through her episode with The Pre-Loved Podcast, and I so enjoyed hearing her thrifting journey there. She also only recently kickstarted her YouTube again, and I’ve found that each video is such a delight! Click HERE to access her YouTube, and HERE for her Instagram!

July 2018 Favorites!

Hello everyone!

It’s been a long time since I’ve done a favorites post! I have a lot of beauty and fashion bits and bobs I’ve been loving so far this summer, so I thought I would share them with you!

BEAUTY
Carmex Classic Medicated lip balm

I got this at Walmart for like a dollar and I swear I love it even more than the Glossier Balm Dot Com. Seriously, you can use it for everything, even on your cuticles. It feels so nice and hydrating on my lips, especially when they’re cracked (which is all the time).

Thayers witch hazel rose petal toner

This is honestly the best toner I have ever used. My skin can’t handle anything super harsh, so when it comes to toner I would typically stay away before. But since this formula has aloe vera and is alcohol-free, it is so gentle that it even feels refreshing when I use it after I cleanse my skin. The rose petal scent is also incredible and soothing, but not overly fragrant.

Neuma neuMoisture Instant Fix

I got a trial size of this in my Ipsy bag, and I fell in love with it instantly. It is natural and cruelty-free, and has done wonders for my hair. Every time I pop a little bit in my hair, it really does condition my hair! Sometimes products (even my long-time favorite Moroccan Oil!) can make me a little frizzy if I use it in the morning, b9ut that never happens with this product. This has been a lifesaver since I cut my hair, especially during the summer (aka prime frizz season). I’ve been using the 1.0 oz trial size for a month now, and it looks like I’ve only used a quarter of it! Gotta love that staying power.

Fashion
Bandana headbands

I have acquired quite a collection of bandanas and handkerchiefs, primarily from Target. They are so easy to pair with a simple t-shirt and pair of jeans when I want to add a pop of color. They’re super cute, and they keep my hair out of my eyes! Here is one of the ones I could find online.

Tiny drop earrings

Unfortunately, I can’t link these exact earrings because I got them at the shore at a little local boutique, but I’ve been wearing these cute little guys constantly. They’re super cute and simple, and that’s been so me this summer. Not too fussy, just stylishly simple.

Forever 21 Camo T-shirt dress

The t-shirt dress is one of my all-time favorite things to wear because they are so easy to throw on, but they are always cute and stylish. This camo dress is no exception! At first I wasn’t sure about the camo print…it’s not my usual style, but I couldn’t pass up the price. Once I wore it for the first time, I was hooked! It is so comfy and soft, and easy to pair with a denim jacket, sandals, or converse. Easily the cutest and easiest outfit of the summer. My only piece of advice is to size up in this dress, so that it’s long and baggy enough for you!

What beauty products and pieces of clothing have you guys been loving this summer? Let me know in the comments, and

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Favorites

Hello everyone!

Today’s off-schedule post is brought to us by the Nordstrom Anniversary sale! In other words, it’s basically the Fashion Blogger… Olympics? Super Bowl? Whatever… You get the point, it’s a big deal.

Early access to the sales started early early early this morning, and all the bloggers I follow on Instagram are going bananas. So, ‘why not join in?’ is my logic! Since “Early Access” is only available for Nordstrom card holders and ya girl is a broke college kid, I have to wait for the sale to start on July 20th like the rest of us plebs. However, I did page through the catalog online, and I thought I would share my favorites with you guys!

CLOTHES

IMG_2392.PNG

I love how this dress is a halter style. It reminded me of a dress I loved from Sammy Robinson’s line with Princess Polly, but only shorter (and therefore, more suited to a 5 foot 3 lady like myself).

IMG_2395.PNG

The colors on this striped sweater are gorgeous and perfect for fall. The neck and the way it’s cropped are so cool as well! I’m also pretty sure I see some sort of detailing on the shoulders, which you don’t see all the time. However, this is way out of my price range (maybe that goes without saying?). I’m pretty confident if I was given a day or two in Goodwill I could find a comparable dupe, but I digress.

IMG_2402.PNG

This is actually one of the few pieces I can definitely see myself picking up on the 20th. The sleeves, the ribbing, the detailing, and the price are all perfect.

IMG_2403.PNG

This looks like the coziest sweater I have ever laid eyes on! I love the cable knit and the color (although it seems there are multiple different colors). It is $50, which isn’t too terrible for a sweater in a department store like Nordstrom.

IMG_2404.PNG

Last winter and fall, I was super into the whole patterned pants trend. I’m glad to see that it is predicted to be no different this coming fall! These are super cute, but with the $50 price tag, I think I’ll stick with the couple of pairs I’ve gotten at the thrift store. H&M has some cute ones in now too, I hear!

This sweater is another possibility that I might not be able to resist. These color combinations are so cute I’m not sure which I would pick. This sweater looks so cozy, I can just picture myself wearing this to class in the fall on a chillier day.

img_2416

I love a sweet and simple t-shirt. The stripes on this tee are adorable, and the two color combinations they have are very tempting for the fall. Again, I could definitely see myself wearing this with a jean jacket to class.

img_2417

I’m alllll for sweaters like this with the “varsity” style stripes. I would feel like a 1950s cheerleader wearing this, and I wouldn’t hate it. Also, yet another cozy sweater option.

img_2418

I already have a shirt just like this that I bought from H&M forever ago, and I wear it all the time every year. For those of you who just want a simple turtleneck to wear literally anywhere anytime, this is it. And you can’t beat the price.

img_2419

I love the stripes down the sides of these leggings, and they look super comfortable. Perfect for class and studying.

I’m obsessed with Adidas activewear, and given how expensive Adidas usually is, I don’t think you can beat these deals. I’m seriously considering those leggings, not gonna lie!

JEANS

I found sooo many pairs of jeans I loved while paging through the catalogue, so I thought they deserved their own section. I’ll arrange them in pairs, just so you guys can see…

Can you tell I have a jean type? I love how they seem to have lots of cropped jeans for the fall. They’re all giving me serious Carolyn Besette Kennedy vibes, for some reason.

SHOES

This is probably the most dangerous section for me. Everyone who knows me knows I have a slight shoe addiction problem… So I need to practice some serious self-control around shoe sales. However. There are some adorable shoes I think the public needs to be made aware of.

IMG_2393.PNG

I’m kind of dying over these. This is honestly the kind of heel I was thinking I would want to wear on my wedding day— they’re the perfect height, and the strap is necessary to make sure I’m not falling all over the place when I’m walking down the aisle. The pattern is adorable, too.

IMG_2394.PNG

I’m loving both slides and snakeskin right now. These are very Taylor Swift-Reputation tour, and I’m here for it. Also, Steve Madden is a fabulous brand that I like to support when I can afford it.

IMG_2405.PNG

I wear my white Converse nearly every day during the school year. When I bought them a year or two ago I think I spent around $60 in store, so if I were looking to replace them (which… mine have gone from ‘white’ to ‘cream’ to ‘just dirty’) I would consider taking advantage of this sale.

IMG_2410.PNG

For the last couple of fall/winter seasons, I have been wearing black ankle boots nearly every single day with a pair of jeans and a sweater. I usually thrift mine, but last year that habit bit me in the butt when nearly every pair I owned fell apart. It might be worth it for me to consider investing in a better quality (and therefore longer lasting) ankle boot for the fall. These are a super cute option!

//

I hope you guys enjoyed this post as I shared my favorite picks from the Anniversary sale catalog. On a slightly different but related note, I would like to also say that a lot of these things, especially sweaters and striped tees, can be easily found in thrift shops literally everywhere. However, if you really want something particular, go for it. Huge sales like this are the perfect occasion to splurge a little bit! Happy shopping (and reading!) 🙂

Feast Your Eyes & Ears #2

Need some new media to subscribe to? In today’s edition of Feast Your Eyes & Ears, I feature YouTubers, a podcast, and an e-newsletter I’ve been loving lately!

Hello everyone!

I’ve been so looking forward to writing this next edition of Feast Your Eyes & Ears! I’ve kept track of the media I’ve been obsessed with for the last month, and here were the stand-out boss ladies that I think deserve some recognition!

Influencer I want to be friends with: Tess Christine

I’ve mentioned Tess in a favorites post I’m pretty sure, but I’ve been so inspired by her content lately I thought I would write about her again. Her weekly vlogs are my favorite videos of hers to watch, but her style is soo effortlessly cool that I enjoy any of her style videos too. She doesn’t play by the trends’ rules, Tess’s style is so original. I always find outfit inspiration in her Insta posts and videos.

Podcast that I listen to when I drive: Keeping it Candid

I have been obsessed with this podcast the last few weeks! This is a “weekly pop culture podcast” (to use their wording) narrated by fashion bloggers Millie Cotton and Sophie Milner. They’re best friends in real life, and you can tell with how their discussions flow so naturally. Whenever I see a notification that these girls have put out another show, I have to press play. Any pop culture and Insta/blog lover will love this podcast.

ASMR that puts me sleep: Batala’s ASMR

My best friend Sammie introduced me to ASMR over the summer, and knock it if you will, but it helps me sleep if I’m having troublesome nights! I Found thisASMRtist recently and I like her content, especially because she doesn’t edit out her personality from her videos. ASMR is probably super awkward to film, and it’s cool to see a successful YouTuber laugh at themselves once and a while.

Tunes that I can’t get enough of: Mermaids soundtrack

Mermaids was one of my favorite movies in early to mid high school. I rediscovered the coming-of-age masterpiece (starring my fave Winona Ryder, along with Cher!) when I found that the movie is free with Amazon Prime (I’ve watched it at least 3 times since lol). I love the old school 60s music that’s featured in the movie, like “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Johnny Angel” the most, and the others are fun to listen to as well. Highly recommend, if you’re a fan of the oldies.

What I immediately read when it hits my inbox: Lenny Letter

I think I found this weekly email newsletter through a podcast called Ctrl-Alt-Delete (which I featured in my last Feast Your Eyes & Ears post). I enjoy a lot of their content, and the creative nonfiction essays are getting me out of my school-assigned-reading rut whenever they pop into my inbox. Because a well-written essay about Feminism is always a welcome change from Middlemarch (it’s 800+ pages long and due in April, guys).

//

As always, given that I’m such a huge pop-culture geek, I would love to hear any recommendations or favorites of yours — leave them in the comments, and we can chat about all things media. Let me know if you like these posts, too, because they’re so much fun to write I might make it a monthly post here on T.G.I.!

Feast Your Eyes & Ears #1

Been looking for some new girl bosses to follow? Look no further! Learn more about the lady influencers, writers, and more that I’ve been watching/reading/listening to!

Hello everyone!

I’ve always been a lover of the internet, and over the years, I’ve collected publications, songwriters, podcasts, and writers that I love to follow and listen to. I especially try to support women who are trying to make their way as artists and influencers. In this man’s-man world it can be pretty difficult. So here are some girl bosses who have been producing fabulous work lately, that I’ve been loving… Each with a link to a specific piece of work that I’ve enjoyed recently 🙂

Influencers I want to be friends with // Lucy Moon

I’ve watched Lucy’s videos for years, and I’ve always appreciated her candor and honesty in her YouTube videos. She talks honestly about sexuality and birth control, mental illness, and her own battles with addiction. I’ve also recently started reading her blog, which is so well written and interesting, I’m more than a little jealous! I especially loved this article on self-care that she wrote.

Podcasts that I listen to at work // Ctrl-Alt-Delete

I discovered this podcast through, funnily enough, Lucy Moon’s blog. I’ve gotten into the habit of listening to podcasts while I’m at work. I like variation, too, so I love when I can find a new podcast. Crtl-Alt-Delete is hosted by Emma Gannon, and she interviews women who are working on amazing projects or own their own businesses. The interviews are always super interesting! Plus, Emma’s English accent is so soothing. I especially love the interview she did with Lena Dunham.

Tunes that I read along to // Jenny Hval

Jenny Hval is a songwriter who I discovered through the Rookie podcast. It is pure poetry, and it’s music that is so easy to lose yourself in. Her stuff is pretty eclectic and dream-like. I like looking up the lyrics and reading along with the songs, and I would recommend doing that as you listen to her songs, if you have the time! Her songs have so much meaning that it’s worth taking a beat and soaking in the message.

What I read before I go to bed // Brianna Weist

She is a fabulous and lauded author and freelance writer who is an alum from my college. She’s written for Forbes, Girls, and Thought Catalogue, and has published a collection of essays and a collection of poetry. Her writing is so full of wisdom and thoughtfulness, it’s incredibly hard to believe that she only graduated a few years ahead of me. And did I mention that her Instagram is the essence of aesthetic? (I just really want to be best friends). I’ve been reading her book 101 Essays That Will Change The Way You Think. I am in awe as I make my way through this book. Brianna is such a fantastic writer, and the wisdom that she portrays through these essays is extraordinary. If you want to have your mind blown with every word, I highly recommend this book!

//

I enjoyed putting this post together, I think that I’ll make this a regular post. I like the “Feast Your Eyes & Ears” title, but if you have any recommendations for a title, leave it in the comments below! Also, if you have any writers, influencers, or podcasts you’ve been loving recently, let me know! I would love to hear 🙂

Top 5 Vlogmas Vloggers!

Hello everyone!

December is truly one of my favorite times of the year. It’s my birthday (21 in less than a week!!). Christmas music is playing everywhere (Dean Martin anyone?). But one of my favorite things is watching Vlogmas vlogs on YouTube. Personally, I would rather watch a good vlog than watch a tv show. So I have my list of subscriptions that I like to watch on a regular basis. And since it is also the time of year for winter break, which means us college kids have a lot more free time on our hands now that finals is over!

So if you want some fresh new faces on your YouTube feed, here are some of the people I’ve been watching this season! Or, since Vlogmas is nearly over, here are some vloggers to binge watch (another favorite winter break activity of mine).

1. Fleur DeForce

Fleur is an old favorite of mine. I think she was one of the first people that I ever subscribed to in middle school when I discovered the joys of YouTube. Her vlogs are always so entertaining and fun. This year is especially extra special because Fleur is expecting!

2. Naomi Smart

I discovered Naomi a few years ago and I love her warm personality. She’s super sweet, and she’s always up to something interesting.

3. Sierra and Alex

This is my first Vlogmas watching this cute couples vlog. They live in LA, so they’re having to battle the LA fires right now during their vlog this year, but they still manage to bring the Christmas cheer.

4. Cody & Lexy

Yet another set of couples vloggers. What I love about these two is they always keep it real. When they’re not daily vlogging, they’re making videos about their relationship and relationships in general, and giving real advice.

5. Tess Christine

Tess is a super grounded yet super successful fashion vlogger, but her vlogs are always fun to watch! She lives in NYC, so of course, there’s always lot to do… Especially in the city! She doesn’t post every day, but I live vicariously through her weekly vlogs!

Those are my top five! If you have a favorite, please feel free to leave a recommendation in the comments. I always have room in my subscription box for fresh new faces! My fiance and I have also been toying with the idea of starting a vlog channel together, just for kicks. So, if we end up sticking with it this winter break, T.G.I. will be the first to know. Until next time, happy watching!

XOXO
