In Cahoots! Episode 2 Show Notes

Hello everyone!

The second episode of the In Cahoots! with @thegingerintrovert is now live! Today I’m talking about the new music I’ve been listening to and loving, including Aly & AJ, Clairo, Lana Del Rey, and new Charlie’s Angels collab with Lana, Ariana Grande, and Miley Cyrus.

However, my main topic of discussion is Taylor Swift’s new album, Lover, which made me fall in love with her music all over again. I review the album track-by-track, and share all of my thoughts about this amazing album!

Click here to see the Teen Vogue article I talk about.

As always, I made a playlist for this episode with all of my favorite songs from the artists I discuss in this episode.

New releases I can’t wait for

Hello everyone!

It’s been a minute. I really dropped the ball on blogging over the summer. However, I felt like I had run out of ideas on things to write about… You can only write so much about skincare, you know? So I’m just going to go with the flow and post more about pop culture and media, because that’s what I’m really obsessing over right now. And there’s so much to talk about! There are so many new releases coming out over the next few months, and I think we need to take a moment and obsess and fangirl about all of them together. So, without further ado, here’s some media that I just can’t wait to consume.

1.

The 1975’s new album, which comes out in November. I keep replaying the four singles they’ve already released because I think they’re pure gold. However, you can only replay four songs over and over for so long. I need my fix. Also, they’ve posted pictures and music videos on their YouTube account, and I’m here for it. Go check out the music videos right now, and start with TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME (this one’s my favorite)–yes that’s the actual name of the song.

2.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is being released on Netflix on October 26 tomorrow!!). I’ve been watching Sabrina the Teenage Witch over again recently, and I can’t wait to see the more thriller-esque spin of one of my favorite shows. It’s also by the creators of Riverdale, so it’s got to be gooood. However, as a reader of the original comic as well, I’m a little nervous (as I was when Riverdale came out). However, I (so far) love who they cast as the characters, so we’ll see how I like it. I’ll report back when I’ve binge-watched the entire show over 48 hours, as one does.

What new releases are you looking forward to listening to/reading/watching? Let me know in the comments, or come talk to me on Instagram @thegingerintrovert! I would love to hear any recommendations for awesome content you have as well!

Hello everyone!

If you’ve read my blog for a while, you know how much I love making playlists. I mean, who doesn’t love a good playlist, though? I’ve made playlists for the last few summers, just because I love having them for when I run. They’re usually made up of the songs that I’m obsessed with at the moment, and this year is no different! But ya girl loves a good throwback, too 🙂

13 cup fresh lime juice3 tbsps agave nectar1 cup pineapple juice2 cups pineapple14 cup triple sec

I have the playlist all put together on Spotify, so come follow me on there! My username is writerchic 🙂 CLICK HERE for the link! I’ll keep adding my favorite songs of the summer to the playlist as the summer progresses, so make sure you’re following!

I’m going to the beach next week with my family (yay!), as I do every year! So, I will be posting my usual OOTDs and stories from the week! However, I will be posting even more on TGI’s Instagram, so make sure you’re following @thegingerintrovert on Instagram as well!

Feast Your Eyes & Ears #2

Need some new media to subscribe to? In today’s edition of Feast Your Eyes & Ears, I feature YouTubers, a podcast, and an e-newsletter I’ve been loving lately!

Hello everyone!

I’ve been so looking forward to writing this next edition of Feast Your Eyes & Ears! I’ve kept track of the media I’ve been obsessed with for the last month, and here were the stand-out boss ladies that I think deserve some recognition!

Influencer I want to be friends with: Tess Christine

I’ve mentioned Tess in a favorites post I’m pretty sure, but I’ve been so inspired by her content lately I thought I would write about her again. Her weekly vlogs are my favorite videos of hers to watch, but her style is soo effortlessly cool that I enjoy any of her style videos too. She doesn’t play by the trends’ rules, Tess’s style is so original. I always find outfit inspiration in her Insta posts and videos.

Podcast that I listen to when I drive: Keeping it Candid

I have been obsessed with this podcast the last few weeks! This is a “weekly pop culture podcast” (to use their wording) narrated by fashion bloggers Millie Cotton and Sophie Milner. They’re best friends in real life, and you can tell with how their discussions flow so naturally. Whenever I see a notification that these girls have put out another show, I have to press play. Any pop culture and Insta/blog lover will love this podcast.

ASMR that puts me sleep: Batala’s ASMR

My best friend Sammie introduced me to ASMR over the summer, and knock it if you will, but it helps me sleep if I’m having troublesome nights! I Found thisASMRtist recently and I like her content, especially because she doesn’t edit out her personality from her videos. ASMR is probably super awkward to film, and it’s cool to see a successful YouTuber laugh at themselves once and a while.

Tunes that I can’t get enough of: Mermaids soundtrack

Mermaids was one of my favorite movies in early to mid high school. I rediscovered the coming-of-age masterpiece (starring my fave Winona Ryder, along with Cher!) when I found that the movie is free with Amazon Prime (I’ve watched it at least 3 times since lol). I love the old school 60s music that’s featured in the movie, like “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Johnny Angel” the most, and the others are fun to listen to as well. Highly recommend, if you’re a fan of the oldies.

What I immediately read when it hits my inbox: Lenny Letter

I think I found this weekly email newsletter through a podcast called Ctrl-Alt-Delete (which I featured in my last Feast Your Eyes & Ears post). I enjoy a lot of their content, and the creative nonfiction essays are getting me out of my school-assigned-reading rut whenever they pop into my inbox. Because a well-written essay about Feminism is always a welcome change from Middlemarch (it’s 800+ pages long and due in April, guys).

As always, given that I’m such a huge pop-culture geek, I would love to hear any recommendations or favorites of yours — leave them in the comments, and we can chat about all things media. Let me know if you like these posts, too, because they’re so much fun to write I might make it a monthly post here on T.G.I.!

When I Want Sunshine (A Playlist!)

If you’re in need of some new tunes to brighten up your day, I share my favorite uplifting playlist here!

Hello everyone!

Music has a place of prominence in my life. Something that I know about myself is that different kinds of music affect my mood. This playlist contains a lot of my favorite songs I listen to when I’m either extremely happy, or I need a pick me up. And then I realized that a couple of my favorites talked about sunshine. Now that can’t be a coincidence. So, I found some other “sunshine” songs, and I compiled it into one big happy playlist. So, I thought I would share my secret sunshine playlist with you!

The playlist is on Spotify, and my username is writerchic in case the embedded link doesn’t cooperate!

https://open.spotify.com/embed/user/writerchic/playlist/1Ok3DPTF3CL57rASFZdAhQ

Since spring is well on its way, I thought this would be a fun post to help get us all in a spring-time mood! I hope this playlist made you happy. Let me know in the comments if you have any favorite spring-y or sunny songs you would like to share! I would love to hear them 🙂

Music Linked to Memories

I know I’m not the only one who associates certain memories with music. Read as I reminisce to the sounds of Adele and We The Kings.

Hello everyone!

Music is such a huge part of my life. I am constantly listening to music. When I’m walking, driving, and writing! There are also certain songs that are forever linked to memories, and whenever I hear them play, it reminds me of them. Here, I’ll share a couple with you!

// “In The Still of the Night” by the Five Satins //

This song makes me think of my first slow dance with Tanner. I had never slow danced with anybody before, and this song was on the playlist of doo-wop oldies that he put together for us. When this song came on I started to sing along, and then he did, too. So, while this song played we sang and danced together. It was the moment I knew I wanted to be with him forever.

// “Check Yes Juliet” We The Kings //

I went to Warped Tour over the summer in 2016 and saw We The Kings, a favorite band of mine. I love the band mostly because of the lead singer Travis and his wife Jenny’s vlogging channel on YouTube, which I watched all the time that summer. When I hear this song, I think about that hot summer afternoon when I danced my heart out to this song. And the strong scent of marijuana that is always so prevalent at any festival.

// Japanese House //

I listened to this band while on the plane on each of my three plane-trips in 2017. To Harry Potter World in Orlando, California, and Grand Cayman. My cousin Sarah introduced me to them, and I downloaded two of their EPs before I went on the trip to Orlando last spring break. Now, their songs “Sugar Pill” and “Sister” especially remind me of flying in a plane, looking out the window into an expanse of sky.

// “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele //

A 2011 oldie that I sang at a Coffe House performance way back in freshman year of high school with my friends. And every time I hear this song I cringe a little bit, but I’m taken back to that night where I was so excited and nervous to perform.

// Any Aly & AJ song //

Aly & Aj reminds me of literally my entire preteen existence, because I listened to both “Insomniatic” and “Into The Rush” obsessively for probably about five years. My best friend Sammie and I bonded over our mutual obsession over the sisters’ music. I nearly passed out with joy when I discovered that they came out with “Take Me” over the summer. I listened to that single song on repeat as I drove around my hometown, waiting for August to end.

//

Do you have any songs that bring back memories? If you do, please leave them in the comments! I would love to hear your stories, too!

Feast Your Eyes & Ears #1

Been looking for some new girl bosses to follow? Look no further! Learn more about the lady influencers, writers, and more that I’ve been watching/reading/listening to!

Hello everyone!

I’ve always been a lover of the internet, and over the years, I’ve collected publications, songwriters, podcasts, and writers that I love to follow and listen to. I especially try to support women who are trying to make their way as artists and influencers. In this man’s-man world it can be pretty difficult. So here are some girl bosses who have been producing fabulous work lately, that I’ve been loving… Each with a link to a specific piece of work that I’ve enjoyed recently 🙂

Influencers I want to be friends with // Lucy Moon

I’ve watched Lucy’s videos for years, and I’ve always appreciated her candor and honesty in her YouTube videos. She talks honestly about sexuality and birth control, mental illness, and her own battles with addiction. I’ve also recently started reading her blog, which is so well written and interesting, I’m more than a little jealous! I especially loved this article on self-care that she wrote.

Podcasts that I listen to at work // Ctrl-Alt-Delete

I discovered this podcast through, funnily enough, Lucy Moon’s blog. I’ve gotten into the habit of listening to podcasts while I’m at work. I like variation, too, so I love when I can find a new podcast. Crtl-Alt-Delete is hosted by Emma Gannon, and she interviews women who are working on amazing projects or own their own businesses. The interviews are always super interesting! Plus, Emma’s English accent is so soothing. I especially love the interview she did with Lena Dunham.

Tunes that I read along to // Jenny Hval

Jenny Hval is a songwriter who I discovered through the Rookie podcast. It is pure poetry, and it’s music that is so easy to lose yourself in. Her stuff is pretty eclectic and dream-like. I like looking up the lyrics and reading along with the songs, and I would recommend doing that as you listen to her songs, if you have the time! Her songs have so much meaning that it’s worth taking a beat and soaking in the message.

What I read before I go to bed // Brianna Weist

She is a fabulous and lauded author and freelance writer who is an alum from my college. She’s written for Forbes, Girls, and Thought Catalogue, and has published a collection of essays and a collection of poetry. Her writing is so full of wisdom and thoughtfulness, it’s incredibly hard to believe that she only graduated a few years ahead of me. And did I mention that her Instagram is the essence of aesthetic? (I just really want to be best friends). I’ve been reading her book 101 Essays That Will Change The Way You Think. I am in awe as I make my way through this book. Brianna is such a fantastic writer, and the wisdom that she portrays through these essays is extraordinary. If you want to have your mind blown with every word, I highly recommend this book!

//

I enjoyed putting this post together, I think that I’ll make this a regular post. I like the “Feast Your Eyes & Ears” title, but if you have any recommendations for a title, leave it in the comments below! Also, if you have any writers, influencers, or podcasts you’ve been loving recently, let me know! I would love to hear 🙂

Christmas Playlist

HAPPY HOLIDAYS, everyone!

I am one of those people where I am not at all ready to even think about Christmas before Thanksgiving (because I love Thanksgiving so much). But once the clock strikes midnight on Thanksgiving night, I am ready to deck the halls and rock around the Christmas tree. And watch Love Actually. But a large part of this celebration is, of course, music! Minus Bing Crosby, who is my favorite artist to listen to during the Holiday Season, these are some of the other songs that I love!

  • “Christmas Wrapping” by The Waitresses
  • “All I Want For Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey (A CLASSIC and my go to sing-along song!)
  • “Last Christmas” by Ashley Tisdale, and also the version by Ariana Grande
  • “Into the Silent Night” by For King and Country
  • “Santa Baby” by Taylor Swift
  • “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” by James Taylor and Natalie Cole
  • “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” by Sam Smith
  • “Santa Tell Me” by Ariana Grande
  • Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” by Little Mix

And then, of course, the ultimate classic:

  • “The Christmas Song” by Nat King Cole

I love this time of year, I hope everyone has had an amazing start to the Holiday season. I’m so looking forward to this December! I love listening to Christmas music and singing along to the songs that I love in the car… At the top of my lungs… But, then again, how is that different than any other day? 🙂
