Mom Mantras to Obey for Better Skin

Hello everyone!

So my skin is so finicky and unpredictable, and certain times of year make it worse. However, when I get into a routine and I make steps to take the best care of my skin, that is when my skin does much better! And, in writing this post, I realized that all of these are basic things that my mom would preach to me as a child. Momma was right! These may seem obvious and mundane, but once I started doing them every day at the beginning of the summer, I saw a definite difference in my skin!

mom and me picture

Drink your water.

This is probably one of the first things out of everyone’s mouth when they’re talking about better skin. Roll your eyes if you will, but I can definitely testify that drinking much more water helped my skin tremendously! I like to keep my water bottle with me all the time, so that I have it there to sip on so that I don’t forget. Also, if you feel super thirsty all of a sudden, chug your water! My mom always told me that’s your body’s way of telling you that it needs that refreshment. So, don’t feed it Coke or sugary drinks when you feel this way, either. That’ll just make you feel even worse.

Wash your face.

Another no-brainer, but this is probably the most crucial habit to get into if you want to take good care of your skin. If you can get to the point where you wash your face every night with the same steps, then you’ll form the habit and it’ll be harder to forget. Also, two bonus “mom mantras” that go along with this: ALWAYS moisturize and NEVER sleep in your makeup!

Take Your Vitamins.

I started taking these vitamins from Nature’s Bounty, and after about a month I started feeling and noticing a difference, in both my skin and my hair! I like these as well because since they’re gummies and they taste good, I remember to take them. That was a trick my mom would use with me when I was little… I never forgot to take those Flintstones vitamins because I liked them so much!

Use Your Sunscreen.

Sunscreen is always, always, always a must. But when it comes to my face, sunscreen can either break me out or dry me out, so it can be hard to keep myself protected. So I think that, for your face, it’s important to find a sunscreen that works well for you. I started using this Neutrogina sunscreen and it really works well for me! Also, even if you’re not going out on the beach, it’s good to still use SPF, so I also like this moisturizer, and I use it after I wash my face in the morning. Also, don’t forget about the lips as well! This Pacifica chapstick is pretty good… It’s not my absolute favorite, but I really like how it is tinted.

I hope you guys enjoyed this mom mantra post… Let me know if you liked it and maybe I could make it into a series! Because there are lots of life lessons my mom drilled into my head that I would love to share as well ūüôā

June Ipsy: REVIEW

Hello everyone!

I’m sorry that it’s been a little since I’ve posted! After I got back from the shore, I just wanted to relax. I’m also volunteering again this summer, so I’ve been pretty busy doing that again! However, right now I am in the Cayman Islands with my best friend, so expect a recap post about my adventures here next Monday!

So I thought that I would share my Ipsy bag from last month! As an “un-bagging” and as a review, since I’ve been plying around with the products for a couple of weeks since it came. This was a pretty mixed bag (pun intended). There were a couple that I liked, and a couple that I am not particularly a fan of.

The bag this month is pretty cute, ¬†although it’s a little small. So it isn’t really a good makeup case, but I’ve used it for my phone for my beach bag while in Cayman!

City Color Cosmetics Shimmer Shadow in Cheers to Life

I really like this shadow so far! It’s pretty pigmented and sparkly, which I like, but still wearable. The copper color can spice up my more neutral summer makeup looks, which is always good!

NYX Whipped Lip & Cheek Souffle

I’m sort of torn on this one. I love NYX as a brand and I usually love their lipsticks and glosses, but this didn’t wear well as a lip product for me personally. It was too sheer and the lighter pink color doesn’t really look right with my skin tone. However, I do like it as a cream blush! I usually wear lighter pinks like this, so it is a cute color for summer. That, and it blends pretty nicely!

Margaret Dabbs London Nail Polish in Daylily

I’m not super fond of this polish. The color is cute, kind of a dark-ish teal, but it wears so quickly! I painted my nails one night before bed, and the next morning they were chipped after I did some packing and laundry for Cayman. Granted, I didn’t take the time to do a top coat, but I looked this brand up and they’re kind of pricey on their own! So, they shouldn’t be chipping that easily.

BioRepublic SkinCare sheet masks in Aloe Rescue and Green Tea Detox

I’ve used the Green Tea Detox so far and I thought it was nice and refreshing. However, for some reason the scent of the mask didn’t smell like green tea to me… It smells like the wipes we would use on our old cat Jaspurr when he wouldn’t clean himself. So, good mask with a weird scent memory attached to it. Although, if you know me, you know that my sense of my smell is kind of off, so don’t take my word on this as gospel truth xD

TheBalm Balm Springs Blush

I was so excited to see this in my bag! I had been wanting to try it out for a while, but since theBalm is usually pretty pricy I didn’t want to shell out the dollars for it. Honestly, I think if/when I run out I’ll just buy my own, because this blush is super pretty on and it wears well!

NUDESTIX Magnetic Matte Lip Color in Rose

Seraphine Botanicals Lychee+Gold blush

OFRA ‘Gold Rush’ or ‘Victory’ eyeshadow

Hanalei Lip Treatment in Rose

Tarte Amazonian Clay waterproof bronzer (which I am the most excited about, because I love Tarte products!!)

I hope you enjoyed this post and the review! I’ll do the same next month, too, and let you know what I think about the products! I’m pretty excited about next month’s bag, so hopefully it doesn’t disappoint!

I hope you’re all well, have a good night!

Cute Workout Clothes for CHEAP!

Hello Everyone!

So every girl (or guy) who works out knows the struggle: cute workout clothes are so expensive! If you walk into the Nike outlet, Lululemon, or any sporting goods store, a good pair of leggings could be something like 80 dollars or more. I’m sorry, but you will never see me spending that much money on just one pair of leggings.

However, over the years, I’ve discovered some other places that have clothes that are just as cute and inexpensive!

This top is from Reebok, and I got it from Goodwill. It wasn’t used, and still had the original tags on when I picked it up! Now, be warned, when you shop the activewear section in Goodwill or Community Aid, you really need to pick through and inspect everything because a lot of the stuff can be pretty gross. However, there are usually a few items that aren’t used or were barely worn, and those are of course the ones you want to pick up! I have gotten my favorite Adidas shorts from Goodwill, along with a few workout tops and sports bras. Again, be careful and take a good look at everything, but don’t discount Goodwill. You never know what you will find!

I got these RBX leggings from TJ Maxx. Now if you know me (or have read any of my past posts), you will know that half of my wardrobe is from TJ Maxx. And my workout clothes drawer is no different. I think I spent about 15 dollars on these capri-leggings! The price range for leggings at TJ Maxx that I’ve seen can be between 12-25 dollars, depending on the brand, for leggings at TJ Maxx. I have also gotten some of my favorite full length, high waisted leggings from Target. It’s been a while, but I’m pretty sure they can be in the 20 dollar range at Target.

Now, sneakers can be pretty tricky when if comes to affordability. You can get sneakers at any Target or Kmart, but I’ve been there and I’ve done that and I do not recommend it. If you’re serious about your workouts, you really need the technology and support from Nike or Adidas or something like that. Now, you don’t have to spend a million dollars, either, if you do some smart shopping! I got my favorite gym shoes, which are black Adidas sneakers, for about 40 dollars at TJ Maxx last summer! That, and if you go to an outlet store and go to the clearance rack, you can find some cute sneakers that are at a pretty good price.

Lastly, whenever I’m running I need to wear a baseball cap to keep my hair in place! I recently bought this hat¬†from the Morgainz¬†Collection, and I love it! The Morgainz¬†Collection was started by my blogger friend Morgan, and all of her hats are super cute and inexpensive! That, and she is expanding her line very soon! She will also be stocking leggings and crop tops, and the leggings will be up on her website soon! So, if you are interested in supporting her super cute brand, you can use my 10% off coupon code!! It’s gingerintrovert¬†ūüôā

Let me know if you guys also have any tips for saving money on workout clothes, I would love to hear them!

OOTW: Stone Harbor

Hello everyone!

Whenever I go to Stone Harbor with my family, I always try to put a little more thought and effort into my outfits. (Meaning, I wildly overpack.) So, I thought that this year I would document my choices for the day for the blog, since it’s been a while since I’ve done an outfit post.

As always, keep in mind that I am not Gigi Hadid (not even close), but I’m trying! Looking back at these pictures, I realize that I also need to vary my pose choices… I’m learning!

Top: an oxford shirt made into an off-the-shoulder shirt by yours truly!
Skirt: Thrifted
Shoes: Thrifted

Monday OOTW

White bodysuit: thrifted
Shirt: Thrifted
Shoes: Target (old)

Top: H&M (old)
Shorts: Thrifted
Shoes: TJ Maxx

Wednesday OOTW

Shoes: TJ Maxx

Thursday OOTW

Top: TJ Maxx
Skirt: Thrifted
Shoes: TJ Maxx

Friday OOTW

Shirt: Firefly in Paso Robles
Jeans: Thrifted
Shoes: TJ Maxx

Okay, so I have some bad news… since most, if not all of these outfits are comprised of things that were A) thrifted or B) from TJ Maxx, which is the absolute worst when it comes to finding links to share. So, I can do some more research and update as I find things that are similar, but for right now I’m having a lot of trouble. It just speaks to the fact that I shop at one of three places: TJ Maxx, Community Aid, or Goodwill. There is rarely an exception, unless I’ve been online shopping (and your girl does not have the funds for that right now). Or, for Friday’s case, I got the off-the-shoulder top at Firefly in Paso Robles when I was in California, and I’m not having much luck finding that online either. Sorry guys!

Real quick before I sign off for the week, this Monday I will be posting my Stone Harbor weekly recap, but I am thinking that it will be my last weekly recap post until Cayman. I might do weekend recaps until then if I do anything interesting, but once I’m home I’m mostly just going to be volunteering and exercising. So that’s the plan for now, but as always, it could be subject to change ūüôā

Summer Favorites!

Happy Summer, Everyone!

Now that Memorial Day has passed, temps have skyrocketed, and colleges and schools are starting to end for the semester, I think we can safely say it’s summertime! So, I was thinking that in the place of my May favorites (although these basically kind of are), I thought that I would share all of the things I know that I’m going to be obsessed with this Summer!

Caked Liquid Lipstick

I got this in my May Ipsy bag (which is also a favorite… If you want me to do an Ipsy review or unboxing leave a comment!). The color is gorgeous, and it is pretty long lasting. The formula is pretty smooth as well, so it’s easy to apply.

L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise

Guys. This mascara though. It is the BOMB! It makes my lashes so full and long, and it holds up all day. However, just a summery word of warning, this particular one is NOT waterproof! I speak from racoon-eyed experience.

Benefit’s Hoola bronzer

The Hoola bronzer is a classic, veering towards Holy Grail status. ‘Nuff said.

Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette

Again, this product is edging towards Holy Grail for me. Mostly because almost all of the colors in the palette are SO WEARABLE. Honestly. And the formula is so nice, and it applies so smoothly. It’s blendable. It’s smooth. It smells delicious, like peach. Excuse me while I go swoon over it some more…

Josie Maran Argan Oil

This stuff is so great for helping to battle frizz… I use on the ends of hair after blow drying and it works like a charm every time.

Ouai Wave Spray

This spray adds a nice texture to my hair. It can be a bit tricky, because sometimes if I use too much it can make me frizzier. But once I cut my hair again, this will be put to very good use!

Jelly Pong Pong eyeshadow duo

This is another pick from my May Ipsy bag. The duo has glittery copper and chocolate brown shadows that blend beautifully together. They’re what I’m going to reach for when I want to do ssomething simple, but I know will still look good. Paired with that Lash Paradise mascara? Best two minute eye makeup look ever.

Milani blush in Luminoso

I picked this up a little while ago after one of my favorite beauty gurus on Youtube, Jaclyn Hill, was raving about it. I saw it in Kmart a few times before finally caving and picking it up. Why did I wait so long?? This blush is absolutely GORGEOUS. It’s abeautiful vibrant deep pink that is so glittery that it layers so well with highlighters, and could even double as one. (If you’re feeling a deeper color that day. It is pretty pigmented.)

Swimsuit from Amazon

Since I’m going on a bunch of beach trips this summer, I wanted to find a new bathing suit. I looked online and at Target and nothing really tickled my fancy. Then a blogger I follow on Insta posted a picture of this swimsuit, and I knew I had to check it out! I fell in love instantly. Cute, strappy, high-waisted, and ONLY $15 with good reviews??? You best believe I smashed that “Add To Cart” button. Also, if you’re intrested in the cut but not the color, you’re in luck! Last time I checked, there were lots of colors to choose from. I might just be ordering another in a different color, because it”s so flattering.

Crash on My Couch Podcast

This is a great podcast to listen to on the plane, I knocked out three episodes during one flight on the way to Cali! Arden and Will are two of my favorite YouTubers. If you don’t know them you should definitely check them both out! They are the absolute cutest, and the definition of relationship goals!

Also, before I sign off, I have a quick and exciting announcement! I finally made an Instagram exclusively for this blog! If you’re not already following, go over to @thegingerintrovertblog in Insta now! I also changed my personal account to @liz_mcilhenney¬†ūüôā

Blushing for Spring

Hello everyone!

Spring is definitely upon us, and I’ve been loving it! Even if the last few days have felt more like summer… At least with the humidity. Hair has been getting frizzier day by day. Joy to the world, haha.

So if you read my April favorites post, you’ll know that one of my favorite things about Spring so far has been wearing blushy-pink. I’ve always loved wearing lighter colors and pastels after a long fall and winter of darker colors, but this season I think I’m a woman obsessed. Especially in the form of an off the shoulder shirt, like this one below!

This has been one of my favorite outfits to wear so far this Spring! Light jeans and a fun, bright color shirt¬†have been my favorite combinations, and this belt that I thrifted¬†last year is the cherry on top. You can’t see it really well in this picture, but the belt has tooled detailing in the leather that I love! Also, the off the shoulder top is from TJ Maxx, from the See You Monday brand. I couldn’t find it online, but HERE’S a similar one! It’s so soft and comfortable, but the bell sleeves are the best. They make me feel like a Disney princess.

It¬†may be Spring, but summer vacation is only one week away! To all my fellow college kids, good luck on finals! We’re so close!

April Favorites!

Hello Everyone!

I can’t believe it’s May already! Is it just me, or is this year going by insanely quickly?

April was a crazy busy month for me. It was the last full month of classes, so of course, that is when the bulk of the work was assigned, so I was running around like a madwoman trying to get everything done. However, there are only about 2 more weeks of school, and I’m so ready to be done!!

Theorie Marula Oil Transforming¬†Hair Serum¬†I got this serum in my Ipsy bag this month and I¬†have been obsessed with it ever since. I put it in my hair when it’s wet, and it makes my hair so much smoother after I blow dry it.

These Steve Madden rose gold aviators are my favorite pair of sunglasses to wear in the Spring and the Summer. I got them at TJ Maxx a¬†year ago so I couldn’t find them online, but HERE is a similar pair at H&M!

Too Faced Melted Metal lipstick in the shade Tu Tu. I have been wearing this every day… Or every day I’ve had the energy to put makeup on. It’s the end of the semester, y’all. It’s hard to get the gumption up anymore.

VS Sun Kissed shimmer body mist I also got this body mist a year ago, probably on the same shopping trip to be honest. I wore this all last summer and the scent reminds me of all those fun memories.

Formula 10.0.6 Mud Mask I got this at Target and I love the way this makes my skin feel, and it smells nice too!

Carli Bybel Eyeshadow and Highlighter Palette (pictured above). My friend Ellie (who is also a blogger, check out her amazing blog HERE :)) recommended this to me, and I am obsessed. I love mauve eyeshadow, and all of these shades are so wearable.

I have also been obsessed with blush tops. I went a little bananas¬†on the blush, so here are a couple of the shirts that I got on a recent shopping trip. I’m posting an outfit post with one of these shirts soon, so stay tuned!

Also, I have been loving to watch Brittany Dawn Fitness‘s channel on YouTube while I’m on the elliptical at the gym. She is so knowledgeable about fitness, and her positive attitude and strong faith Christian¬†is so refreshing!

So those were my favorites from this month! I’m hoping to make this more of a monthly habit, or at least for every month this summer.

So I went a little crazy…

Hello everyone!

So a couple of days ago, my best friend and I got together since we are both home on winter break right now. We went to Olive Garden, solely for the fried mozzarella (which was divine, by the way). After we finished out dinner, we decided to go shopping. I had some birthday money burning a hole in my pocket, and I was dying to go to Sephora, especially.

We went to Victoria’s Secret first , which was packed since they’re having their semi-annual sale right now. I picked up¬†THIS¬†cute sleep shirt that says “This Is My Brunch Shirt.” I thought the colors were so cute, so I decided to pick it up.

Next, we went to Sephora. I had been dying to go since I decided that I wanted to get some new makeup for the new year. I picked up a couple of things, all of which I have had the chance to try out and (mostly) love. First, I picked up a smaller size of the BADgal Lash mascara from Benefit. I used this mascara a couple of years ago and loved it, so I figured that picking up a mini one couldn’t hurt.

I also got the Josie Maran Argan Skincare Ritual Set, which I have had the chance to use a couple of nights in a row. It has cleansing oil, Argan oil, and a moisturizer in it. I really like the cleanser and the Argan oil, but I found the moisturizer to be pretty underwhelming. It didn’t really rub into my skin and blend well at all.

I picked up this Ouai hair set, which I couldn’t find on Sephora’s website, but it has these in it: a wave spray, a texturizing spray, and a finishing creme. ¬†I also had the chance to try all of these out, and I LOVE the texturizing spray and the finishing creme, but the wave spray wasn’t very impressive. Honestly, I think that Not Your Mother’s Sea Salt Spray is much better (and is much cheaper).

My favorite item that I picked up from Sephora is the Too Faced Sweet Peach Eye Shadow Collection Palette. I love love love this palette! It smells delicious and all of the colors are gorgeous. I can picture myself using all of these shades, and the ones I have tried are very pigmented and wear well. I usually wear more subdued eyeshadows, so this palette is perfect for me. I have used it every day since I bought it, and I am very pleased with it!

After Sephora, we went to Lush and drooled over all of the yummy smelling bath bombs and lotions. I wasn’t planning on getting anything, but I did end up getting the Mint Julips lip scrub, since I have been looking for a good one lately. My lips are always so dry during the winter, so I always need to exfoliate before I put on lipstick.

I had so much catching up with my best friend. We have been friends since the first grade, so she is really more of a sister than a friend. I am so thankful that I got to spend so much time with her over break! I hope you guys enjoyed this haul!

New Year’s Eve Outfits

Hello everyone!

2017 is only days away!

New Year’s Eve is always both exciting and a little sad for me, but this year I am really ready for the new year to come. My family has a tradition where we watch movies until just before midnight. We tune into our local news channel that broadcasts all of the local celebrations, as well as the ball dropping in New York City. This year is also especially exciting since I was in New York City just yesterday, so I get to watch the ball drop having just been in Times Square!

As for the outfits, I have put together two different kinds of outfits. The first is for those of you who are going to indoor parties where you can afford to have bare legs and a shorter dress. The second outfit is for those who are going to outside events and need to bundle up for the weather.

If you’re going to a party that is indoors, New Year’s Eve is the perfect excuse to wear the most glammy and sparkly dress that you can find.

I have been waiting since February to wear this dress, since I got it on sale at H&M. So since I bought it months ago, I couldn’t find the same one online, but I found THIS cute one that is pretty similar in style. I also paired it with THIS vest from JC Penney that I have been loving this winter! As for my shoes, I wore a pair of black ankle boots that I thrifted.

A dress for New Year’s Eve is fine and good if you are indoors, but I know that a lot of people are going to outdoor events as well. Since it’s December, it obviously wouldn’t be the best idea to wear a dress in freezing weather conditions. For this, I would recommend bundling up in a parka, a sweater, and a cute scarf and boots.

I love this parka that I got at Target last year, and they still have a similar one with a fur-lined hood. I have been loving plaid blanket scarves, and THIS cute one from ModCloth is a near match to the one I’m wearing in the picture! As for the boots, I love these thigh high boots from Target. If you’re walking around a lot, pick out your most comfortable pair!

// MAKEUP //

I love holidays like this where I can go all out with my makeup!¬†I did a more subdued smokey eye with black eye liner and red lips. These are the products that I used…

1. Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream 8-in-1 Skin Perfector in Light

2. This is my favorite blush from The Body Shop that has since been discontinued, but THIS blush is similar from them!

3. STILA Set & Bronze Baked Powder Trio

4. NYX badunkadunk mascara has the most ridiculous name but is a fantastic mascara nonetheless.

5. Lorac Pro Matte Palette, and I used “Jet Black” to line my eyes with.

6. This is also an old quad palette from ELF, but THIS palette is basically the same shades in updated packaging. I used the sparkly gray (which would be the “crease” color on the newer palette) for the outside of my lids.

7. I lined my lips with the Rimmel Lasting Finish 1000 Kisses Stay On Lip Liner Pencil in Red Dynamite.

8. The Estee Lauder lipstick is Pure Color Creme in Scarlet Siren. However, I think that even though this is relatively new that Estee Lauder has changed their lipstick lines and added new shades, so THIS lipstick looks like relatively the same thing.

I also neglected to include my ELF Waterproof Eyeliner Pen in the picture, which I used to do the winged eyeliner.

Thank you so much for reading, I hope you all have a wonderful New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Please stay safe and stay warm! Cheers to 2017!

OOTW: Finals Week

Hello Everyone!

This past week has been crazy because of finals. This past semester was a good start to my Sophomore year, but honestly I am so glad that its over!

So since it was finals week, comfort was key for all of the writing I had to do for my final projects. However, I tried to be both comfortable and cute as well. The key to this is scarves and leggings 100%.

// MONDAY //

I wore jeans and a tan long sleeve shirt with my big blanket scarf that I could live in. I love this scarf because if I get cold, I can take it off and use it as a blanket. I had work on Monday and since I work in a colder place, I used it as both a scarf and as a shawl.

I wore my favorite Hollister jeans, a white tank top and a burned amber colored cardigan. I am also featuring Victoria’s outfit because she looked fabulous! I could be mistaken but I think her dress is also from Hollister as well.

I wore a hunter green top with cut-outs on the shoulders with velvet leggings. I have been loving the velvet trend, and these leggings are so comfortable. I went home early on Wednesday night since I only live about half an hour away from school, and I didn’t have to go back until Friday. My dad helped me take this picture, so he wanted to make sure I gave him credit for the picture. (There you go, dad.)

Thursday was a long and uncomfortable day. Let’s just say, I had a lot of writing to do and I drank six cups of coffee in three hours. So, I wore this sweater that was actually a hand-me-down from my dad and leggings (again).

// FRIDAY //

Friday was my birthday!! So, in spite of the 14 degree weather, I was determined to wear this dress that my parents got me for my birthday from Francesca’s. I am in love with this dress. It is so comfortable and it fits like a glove. I saw a friend of mine wearing this dress a while ago and when I looked it up online, dresses were on sale for 50% off I think, and I was sold. However, I think I would recommend wearing tights with it on such a cold day.

After my final on Friday, I got to go home for good. We made it everyone! Now, it’s time for Christmas and Holiday celebrations! Tree trimming! Family time! Pie! Can you tell I’m excited?

This weekend, I am in New Jersey for my family’s annual Tree Trim party, which is tomorrow night. I am so excited to see everyone! I’ll share more of my birthday and Christmas party details on Monday for my weekend post, so stay tuned!
